About Us

The First Plastics & Rubber Directory Online

The Polysort Story – One of the Earliest Internet Directories

Polysort was launched in February 1995 as an online portal serving the plastics and rubber industries, with news, ads and a directory of plastics and rubber industry websites. At the time we launched, very few companies in our industry had Internet access or email, let alone a website. Our mission then was one of education, first, and web services, second, as we assisted businesses in signing up with Netscape, the first commercial browser.

In those early days, general Internet directories like Yahoo and Alta Vista and a few industry-specific directories, like Polysort, were the primary way of finding business websites, other than by word-of-mouth, business cards, print advertising or dumb luck.

In 1998, Google – the first true search engine -- turned the concept of search and the Internet upside down. But in spite of the search giant’s sophistication, it didn’t make industry-specific directories obsolete for business owners. Rather, for those that understand how Google works, optimized hand-edited directories, like Polysort, became an important part of the SEO efforts for their websites.

Because we were there from Google’s start, we understand its value and how companies can and should leverage the search engine to drive traffic to their websites.  In 1995, we helped develop the concept of online marketing. Today, our expertise in search engine optimization (SEO) has allowed us to evolve that early concept of an industry portal into a plastics and rubber directory that is uniquely positioned to help companies utilize the capabilities of Google for their benefit.

Leveraging our SEO Strengths

Throughout the ‘90s and early 2000s, our company’s knowledge and expertise in SEO became widely known, as company President Angela Spreitzer Charles hit the speaking circuit at numerous plastics and rubber industry conferences and Internet seminars.  That led to inquiries from companies outside our industry for website design and SEO help, many as referrals from existing customers and others who found us through Google.

In 2004, we re-branded our SEO expertise with the launch of Pilot Fish, separating our website design and SEO capabilities from Polysort and expanding to other industrial markets.

A new entity, PF Interactive LLC, formed by Angela Charles, acquired Polysort and Pilot Fish in 2016 from  other investors.

Pilot Fish now provides website design, SEO and content marketing services to B2B companies in a wide range of industries, including metal fabrication, software, electronics, chemicals, machinery, plastics and rubber.
