SEO Goal for 2009: Link, link, link
By Angela S. Charles
President, Polysort LLC
If I were to characterize the year 2008 in some way, it would be “Preaching to the Choir.”
For web site development and SEO firms like us, that’s a good thing. We’ve spent many years educating about what makes a good web site and it seems like many, if not most, people understand the importance of good content for search engine positioning and visitor response.
So, for 2009, we’ll set the goal of helping companies understand the equivalent importance of gaining incoming links to their sites.
Because there are so many web sites competing for terms that visitors will use to find specific sites, search engines like Google and Yahoo added incoming links as a factor in determining which sites were most important to rank on the first page of a search result.
The more quality incoming links you have going to your site, the more credible and important it is considered by the search engines, and the more likely it will show up on the first page of results. Incoming links is as important as good content in determining how well your site will rank.
Want proof? We’ve put together a special offer that will help identify your site’s current search engine positioning and it’s relationship to incoming links.
For just $79, we’ll provide you:
An analysis of your site’s current position on Google, Yahoo and MSN for 5 keywords of your choosing;
A comparison of the number of incoming links to your site vs. sites that perform on the first page of Google for those same terms;
And, an analysis of your site to identify any issues that could be impacting your site’s performance on the search engines and among visitors.
We’ll follow up our report with a personal consultation to answer your questions on how to improve your site’s search engine positioning for 2009, how to focus on high-value, high-traffic keywords, how to create brand leadership through impactful design and how to develop an incoming links strategy.
